News Team

Surge Newsweek is a specially formed weekly news programme focused specifically on the University of Southampton. The dedicated team of reporters meet weekly to record and produce a high quality journalistic programme covering the views of Southampton University students on the topics that most matter to them as students. This is then aired three times a week at midday on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays in order to reach the widest audience possible. Currently the Newsweek team is headed by Alex Cunningham and produced by Tom Croasdell as well as being closely assisted by up to eight weekly contributers.

As well as covering the main student focused news stories we look to broaden our range to cover the type of unique far-fetching topics only Student News can in our own style! Resultantly we can often be found with our mikes roaming the University Concourse finding out your opinions. On top of this we are also to keen to produce Newsweek specials on topics we feel most concern the students here, most recently including the the drop in students taking languages, proposed top-up fees and the SUSU elections.

Surge Newsweek has a very successful record at the annual Student Radio Awards, winning awards in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and this is something we are always looking to improve upon. Consequently we are all very hard working and always seeking to broaden horizons in any way possible. If you feel that you have something more to add to the show, we would love to hear from you at news@surgeradio.co.uk
