Leeds-based five-piece Duels released their critically-acclaimed debut album 'The Bright Lights & What I Should Have Learned' in August 2006.
The band, which consists of brothers Jim and Jon Foulger (guitar and vocals respectively), their cousin Katherine (keyboards and backing vocals), drummer James Kirkbright and bassist Jon Maher, create anthemic new-wave pop with sinister undercurrents to create a unique, vibrant sound, while recalling legendary artists such as David Bowie and Pulp along the way. Jon Foulger's lyrics often marry character writing with contemporary social commentary.
Duels have opened for Kaiser Chiefs and former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, and have toured the UK and Europe with The Rakes, The Zutons, and The Kooks. The band played the Radio1/NME Stage at the Leeds/Reading Festivals and opened the main stage at T In The Park 2006.
After an amicable split from label Nude Records, the band are currently working on the follow-up to 'The Bright Lights & What I Should Have Learned'. They have previewed several demos on their official MySpace page, including 'Regeneration', 'Sleeping Giants' and 'If This Car Should Crash', which showcase an edgier and more layered sound, while retaining the band's quintessential pop sensibilities.
