Ray LaMontagne (born 1974) is a folk singer-songwriter currently living in Wilton, Maine. After hearing a Stephen Stills song, he decided to quit his job and pursue a career in music. He has since released two records, Trouble and Till the Sun Turns Black. A soft-spoken person who is known for his raspy voice, LaMontagne has won a number of awards for his music and has performed at several charity events.
By mid-1999, LaMontagne amassed 10 songs for a demo he would send to Chrysalis Music Publishing. After recognizing LaMontagne as a gifted artist, Jamie Ceretta set out to expose LaMontagne to the world. In a period of two weeks, they created Trouble at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, California which was picked up and released by RCA Records in 2004.
Two years later, LaMontagne won a Best Voice Esky in Esquire's 2006 Esky Music Awards
